Melissa (Missy) Dobernigg is thanked by President Janet Green.  She introduced us to “The BX Press Cidery & Orchard.”  The 40 acre east Vernon orchard, on former BX Express land, has been in her husband Dave’s family for three generations, but in 2011, Melissa caught the “cider bug,” took some intensive training, & produced her first batches.  She received a winery license in 2013, & in 2015 hopes to produce 40,000 half-liter bottles of four varieties of cider.  New liquor regulations, currently being introduced, will help her to market her products through on-site tastings & the farmer’s market.  Cider is between beer & wine in alcohol content, & has great potential to be paired with local foods, & other locally produced alcoholic beverages.  Our club members quickly embraced her invitation to a tasting session in the late spring!  See  (Photo by Keith Johnston)
